Frequently Asked Questions

Genetics, general health, medications, stress, and diet are all important things to consider when are evaluating your thinning solutions. Treatment for any or all of these reasons will help slow the process and sometimes can reverse it. Sometimes it takes 6 months or more for you to see results. First, you must keep in mind your success rate will depend greatly on how aggressive your hair loss is. Secondly, you must stay compliant when following a treatment program.

Low light laser hair growth therapy releases red light onto the scalp, repairing at the cellular level, stimulating energy production and increasing blood flow. FDA-approved for various uses, low light laser hair therapy has been shown to result in new hair growth for most patients undergoing treatment.

Using a cold laser, our expert technicians will concentrate compressed light onto the area in need of stimulation with our Ultimate Laser. This light works to:

  • Significantly increase blood supply to the treated area, even after only one treatment
  • Stimulate follicles & encourage healthier, stronger & more lustrous hair production
  • Put a stop to hair loss

Absolutely! Low light laser hair therapy is proven to safely and effectively encourage the regrowth of thicker, healthier hair. And the best part is that you’ll be able to enjoy this treatment in the comfort of our warm and welcoming and private office. With low light laser hair therapy, there are no messy creams or time-consuming regimens– just healthy new hair!

The number of treatments needed in order to see results varies from person to person. During your complimentary consultation, our expertly trained consultants will perform a scalp analysis and take a series of magnified scalp photos. Using this information we will be able to give you a pretty good idea of how many treatments you will need to see the results you’re after.

If your hair is thinning, you’re probably wondering why. There’s a very good chance that it’s nothing that you’ve done, but rather something you can attribute to a combination of genes (mostly to blame) and testosterone (a little to blame), which work increasingly against your hair as you age. These genes can come from either your mother’s or your father’s side of the family – so feel free to blame them both.

As we age, our hair follicles grow smaller so that they begin to produce smaller hairs that are more difficult to see. That’s why, prior to going completely bald, men will often have light, fine hair that’s hard to see on the scalp. Hair follicles continue to grow smaller and then cease to function at all when testosterone is converted to dihydrotestosterone (DHT) with the aid of the enzyme 5-alpha-reductase. In time, DHT shrinks hair follicles, restricts their blood flow and causes them to atrophy. Needless to say, because men produce more testosterone than women, they typically experience more hair loss with age.

Alopecia refers to medical hair loss, and is responsible for a large percentage of hair loss problems in men, women and children.

According to the American Hair Loss Council, “The insistence of parents, although well meaning, for a child to wear a wig or prosthesis can signal the message ‘YOU’RE NOT O.K. THE WAY YOU ARE!’ A child should have all of the options, but the choice should be his or hers. Hugs and tender loving care, along with your physician’s suggestions for care are all that is necessary from the parents.”

But, it can be helpful to prepare for hair loss beforehand as much as is possible. Prior to chemotherapy, take numerous photos of your child’s hair the way he or she usually wears it — this will help your hair loss expert select and style the right hair replacement option for your child, and restore his or her comfort and confidence. Another important task is to take several snippets of hair so that the color and texture can be matched later on.

Should your child decide that he or she would like to try a hair replacement, HPIHair has many beautiful, natural-looking—and kid-proof!—options for your child. We can custom-style and fit a replacement for optimal comfort and natural-looking results. We work to provide a replacement that is as close to your child’s hair color, length, thickness, and style as possible — and the good news is, your insurance provider may cover the cost of the replacement!

To understand telogen effluvium, it’s best to first have a working idea of how a “normal” head of hair works. The average person has 120,000 to 150,000 strands of hair on his or her head and sheds an average of 100 hairs each day. These hairs are shed following a resting period of three to four months, which begins after the several-years-long growth cycle is complete. At any given time, different hairs are in different stages of the growth cycle, but if you suffer from telogen effluvium, a disproportionate number of hair follicles shift suddenly into the resting stage. This usually results in the shedding of a large number of hairs within a short period of time.

Balding and thinning hair is a condition that men have been fighting, concealing, or simply avoiding dealing with since the beginning of time. Julius Caesar hid a receding hairline beneath that crown of olive leaves, and Napoleon rushed into battle with a comb-over. Of course, plenty of our country’s forefathers donned powdered wigs to cover patchy hair loss (theirs brought on by a syphilis outbreak), and presidents John Adams, John Quincy Adams, Martin Van Buren, and Dwight Eisenhower, among others, had less than a full head of hair. Even modern-day pop culture has enlisted many a chrome dome into its ranks — here’s looking at you, Bruce Willis.

If you’re balding, to say you’re not alone with this problem is no overstatement. A reported 70 percent of men will be affected by hair loss during their lifetime. Many times balding is a natural part of the aging process, but certainly not always. Since the problem of baldness goes so far back (ahem), it can be difficult to understand why there’s not yet a cure for it. Fortunately, there are numerous treatments that are proven effective for thinning hair, and here at HPIHair, we can personalize a plan for you.
