Is your hair still thinning? Are you fatigued and cannot seem to warm up? Noticing a few extra pounds?
If you answered yes to any of the above, the first thing that comes to mind is the state of your thyroid.
Hair loss is a complicated problem, and we should begin by the law of elimination. Since your thyroid is the “master gland” of the body, we need to rule out indications this tiny little organ is a contributing factor to hair loss.
Listen and subscribe to our Thyroid Hair Loss Connection Podcast weekly as hosts, Kimberly Vaughn and Nataliia Sanzo, have a science based, candid conversation about how your thyroid affects your hair. Each week you will learn practical solutions to hair growth, healing your thyroid, and balancing your hormones with a holistic nutritional approach and the latest treatments. Kimberly Vaughn is a certified trichologist, hair loss specialist, and hair coach. Nataliia Sanzo is a registered dietician also known as Nashville’s Thyroid Expert. Podcast: Hair Loss Continues for Post Covid and Long Haulers! available now.
Both hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism can cause loss of hair. Hair loss effected by a thyroid disease occurs as diffused loss; apparent from the frontal hair line to the nape of the neck. Many times we also see thinning above the ears and on the sides of the head. This pattern of hair loss is not exclusive to a thyroid imbalance, female pattern hair loss can be caused by many contributing factors.
When an unbalanced thyroid or hormones are the problem, the hair moves from the growing (anagen) phase to the telogen (shedding) phase much more rapidly due to the stress on the entire body. Allowing hair to continue to thin without conclusive reasoning, diagnosis, or identification is a problem. Determining the root cause of your loss is key to moving forward with proper treatment.
Our team of hair loss specialists (Trichologists), functional medicine director (Dr. Jack Monaco), and caring staff will guide your path as we identify the root causes of your hair loss. Our Trichologists have over 35 years of experience and approach hair and scalp issues in a holistic way.
What is Trichology, you may ask? This is the science of hair and scalp health, solely focused on treating the disorders associated with scalp conditions and hair loss. We evaluate personal history, hormonal imbalance, nutrition, lifestyle, stressors, genetic factors, and environmental conditions.
Experiencing hair loss can be a hard thing to deal with, but understanding the cause can be even harder. Many people have no answers as to why their hair is thinning. Wouldn’t it be great if you could get to the root cause of your hair loss?
Here at HPIHair Partners, we are now offering our AlopeciaDX blood test to target specific causes for your hair loss.
